Root Canal Therapy in Vaughan

A root canal rescues a tooth whose nerve has become infected, ending the pain and saving the tooth at the same time. The procedure's scary reputation belongs to another era. Modern root canal therapy feels remarkably like getting a filling.

The pain stops here
That deep, throbbing ache is the infected nerve. Removing it brings relief that painkillers never quite reach.
Keep your own tooth
Nothing artificial matches a natural root. Saving the tooth preserves your bite and spares you the cost of replacing it.
One or two calm visits
Most root canals finish in a single visit, fully numbed. Back teeth with complex canals sometimes take two.

What a root canal actually is

Inside every tooth is a soft core of nerve and blood vessels. When deep decay or a crack lets bacteria reach it, the nerve becomes inflamed and then infected. The source of the notorious toothache. A root canal removes that infected tissue, disinfects the canals and seals them against reinfection.

The tooth stays right where it is, doing its job. Because a treated back tooth becomes more brittle over time, we usually recommend a crown afterwards to protect it for the long run, and we show you on the X-ray exactly why, before anything starts.

Signs you may need a root canal
A toothache that throbs or wakes you at night
Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold
Pain when biting on one specific spot
A darkened tooth or a pimple-like bump on the gum
Swelling around one tooth

Your journey, visit by visit

1
STEP 01
Diagnosis
An exam and X-ray confirm whether the nerve is infected and whether the tooth can be saved. Severe pain is treated as an emergency. Often same-day.
2
STEP 02
Complete numbing
We test the anesthetic before starting. You feel pressure and vibration during treatment, not pain.
3
STEP 03
The treatment
Infected tissue is removed and the canals are cleaned, disinfected and sealed. Usually one visit, sometimes two.
4
STEP 04
Protection
A filling or crown restores full strength so you can chew like nothing ever happened.

Cost & coverage, in plain language

A root canal at Keele & Steeles Dental Office is quoted before treatment starts, with the crown priced separately so nothing is a surprise. Covered in part by most plans and by CDCP, and every insurer is billed directly.

Your questions, answered honestly

The treatment itself should not hurt. You are fully numbed, and we test it before starting. The famous pain is the infection beforehand, and the root canal is what ends it.
Usually 60 to 90 minutes. Molars with several canals may need a second visit to finish properly.
You can, but keeping your own tooth is almost always better for your bite and usually cheaper over time, since a pulled tooth eventually needs replacing. We lay out both options with real numbers and let you decide.
Call us. Severe tooth pain counts as an emergency here, and we hold same-day room in the schedule six days a week.
Root canal treatment is covered by most insurance plans and is a covered CDCP service. We confirm your coverage and bill the plan directly.
Mild soreness for a few days is normal and manageable. If it is a back tooth, we will talk about a crown to protect it. On your timeline, not a hard sell.
NEW PATIENTS WELCOME

"I am a long term client of Doctor Sharma for about 10 years now (I first came in due to a root canal and dr sharma was so kind to take me in with priority due to the pain). Even though I have now moved over an hour away depending on traffic I will continue to always come back to Doctor Sharma. Not only is he extremely talented and gifted at his craftwork but he is also geneuinly one of the kindest and most compassionate people you will meet. I get so many compliments on my smile now! Your kids will love visiting the dentist, too!"
